PS 1999 - 2019
A 20 year anniversary exhibition

14 - 28 September 2019

The PS 1999 - 2019 group exhibition opens in PS projectspace on Saturday 14 September at 4 p.m. The exhibition shows the work of 35 (inter) national artists with whom PS has collaborated in the past 20 years or with which PS will collaborate in the near future.
In addition to the PS projectspace exhibition space at Madurastraat 72, there are 12 other locations where the exhibition will take place. Shops and businesses in the immediate vicinity of PS, in the Sumatrastraat and the Javastraat; Café Insulinde, Sezar Kledingreparatie, Kwiyasse hairstyling, Kapsalon Mehdya, Pizzeria Lago Maggiore, viswinkel El Pescado, Schoenmaker Hillie’s, Zeeman, IJs van Oost, Fred’s tabakshop, IJzerhandel Theo van Kalken en Aquarium en Dierenspeciaalzaak Rainer. Artists have been asked to develop a new work and to respond to the specific character of the different locations.

PS stands for Post Scriptum, Project Space, Public Space or Private Space. PS projectspace was launched in January 1999 in the living room of visual artist and initiator Jan van der Ploeg. After having organized exhibitions at home for more than 12 years, the project space moved to Madurastraat 72 in 2011, in the Indische buurt in Amsterdam East.
This multi-cultural working-class neighborhood is currently undergoing a development comparable to that in Amsterdam's Pijp in the late nineties. There is an infectious energy. New breeding grounds and (artist) initiatives have established themselves in various places in the neighborhood. PS has joined this development.
For the past 20 years, PS has offered a platform for the work of upcoming and renowned (inter) national artists in an environment that exists between the conventions of an artist-run space and a commercial gallery and aims to take on a signaling and pioneering role in this and to add another formula to the already existing ways of presenting art.
As part of its 20th anniversary, PS organized the PS 1999-2019 group exhibition. Participating artists are: Matthew Allen (AUS), Franciscus Ammerlaan(NL), Tim Ayres(UK), Lisa Beck (USA), Alain Biltereyst (B), Karina Bisch (FR), Ton Boelhouwer (NL), Stephen Bram (AUS), Nicolas Chardon (FR), Julian Dashper (NZ), Ronny Delrue (B), Piet Dieleman (NL), Salome Ghazanfari (D), Miriam Glinka (D), Daniel Göttin (CH), Michelle Grabner (USA), Terry Haggerty (UK), Ab van Hanegem (NL), Twan Janssen (NL), Pieter Kusters (NL), Harry Markusse (NL), Daniele Marx (BR), Gerold Miller (D), Paul Morrison (UK), Nell (AUS), Guido Nieuwendijk (NL), John Nixon (AUS ), Thijs Rhijnsburger (NL), Han Schuil (NL), Peter Schuyff (NL), Machiel van Soest (NL), Peer Veneman (NL), Charlie Verot (FR), Dan Walsh (USA), Riette Wanders (NL), Rohan Wealleans (NZ), Charlott Weise (D).
